Morning tea at Gooram Falls

Mal and Jen kindly drove a backup van, so we could have a gentle introduction to touring for the newbies. After a walk to the falls we had some munchies. Gaa Gaa! (Seagull noises here).

Maintongoon turnoff

We leave the Warburton Highway to ride alongside Lake Eildon. It was good to get back onto a back road again and away from heavy traffic.

Sonnberg Rd: before the climb

About 1km from the Maintongoon Rd. we stopped to show the group with Lake Eildon behind us. Note the very low water level.

Sonnberg trig point

After the challenging climb up from the valley, we stopped at the trig point for morning tea. The view makes the hard climb well worth it. There are numerous views at various points along the road all the way to Eildon.

The heroes

We find a name our group at a service station in Buxton.

The Acheron Way

On the Fourth day of the ride we encountered some cool and damp conditions. Long views are nice, but a change to large forest (with forest smells) is great. The Acheron Way is a good alternative to the Black Spur, but look out for logging trucks which can use the road.

Getting ready.

Mal and Jen have a bludge as we ready ourselves at the Hotel Won Wondah (now Warburton Hotel) to ride the last section along the rail trail from Warburton to Lilydale.
